Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings was an historically themed realtime strategy game first released by Microsoft in the autumn of 1999. Well reviewed, it reached the top of the sales charts in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia and South Korea.

An expansion pack - Age of Empires II: The Conquerors - was released in 2000, and a full sequel in 2005.
