The Commodore 128’s CP/M support was part of Commodore International’s attempt to move from just the home and hobbyist market into the much more lucrative business computing market. Hardware-wise, this was done by including a MOS 8502 for Commodore 64 backwards support and a separate Zilog Z80 for CP/M support.
In spite of the Commodore 128’s support for CP/M, the Commodore 1238 did not do well in the market place and was not the breakthrough business machine hoped for.
