Jonathan Mills’ XASM-86 was a cross-assembler for 8080/Z80 platform that helped a software developer to target the then new 8086 and 8088 platforms without needing to assemble on a native system. While this ability to assemble software on one platform that targets another is standard amongst modern code assemblers, in the early 1980s, XASM-86 was a novel product.
