‘The Ultimate Push Technology’
The WaveTop Network was an early attempt at distributing on-demand video content to home computers. WaveTop programming was inserted as side-channel data into regular PBS transmissions which then - with a suitable computer and TV capture card - WaveTop could decode and store. This would allow a pseudo-on demand feeling for the computer user using the WaveTop software. WaveTop content could be transmitted at rates between 14.4 Kbps and 28.8 Kbps.
A 1997 press release announcing a bundling collaboration between WaveTop and Microsoft for Windows 98 can be found here.
