‘Ultimate mix of Alternative, Rock, Hip Hop and Electronica’
eMusic was an early online digital music store. By 1999 their standard file was an MP3 files encoded at 128Kb/s and users were warned that ‘Downloading a 3-minute song on a 56.6 modem should take about 7 to 8 minutes or about 15 to 20 minutes if you have a 28.8 modem connection’. Predominantly selling tracks from independent artists, some notable groups that were available on eMusic at this point included Phish and They Might Be Giants.
