‘Hog the Internet’
The Intel AnyPoint Home Network was a domestic networking technology that utilised existing home phone lines to network computers together without the burden of installing a more traditional networking system. Designed to allow domestic users to share both an internet connection and local files, AnyPoint ran in a different frequency range to traditional telephony and so allowed for phone use at the same time as network access.
AnyPoint had a maximum throughput of up to 1 Mbps and was available in USB, parallel port and an internal PCI version. Only Windows-based computers were supported.
The AnyPoint Home Network name was later reused for a range of wifi product.
A positive review can be found in Maximum PC’s August 1999 issue. The AnyPoint home page can be found here.
