‘We’ve got it!’
TDL’s ZPU was a Zilog Z-80-based CPU upgrade card for the Altair 8800, the IMSAI 8080, and other S-100 bus-base computers that originally shipped with Intel’s 8080 CPU. The ZPU’s primary appeal lay in its 25% faster clock speed when compared to the Intel 8080, boasting 2.5 MHz against the 2 MHz of the Intel CPU. This allowed users to upgrade for improved performance without disrupting their existing software ecosystem. The ZPU was available in kit form starting at around 269 USD.
An in-depth look at the TDL ZPU can be found at classiccmp.org. A copy of the ZPU manual can be found at [s100computers.com](https://www.s100compute
