‘Choosy Motherboards Choose ZIF’
A ZIF - or Zero Insertion Force - socket is a method of mounting chips of any type to a PCB. The ZIF socket allows for a chip to be easily and quickly removed with minimal force for upgrade or replacement. This in contrast to a chip that is soldered on and thus hard or impossible to remove without damaging either the chip or the PCB.
