‘…from 2.5 gigabytes to 580 gigabytes.’
Founded in 1985, Exabyte Corporation was a manufacturer and developer of tape storage products best know for the Data8 magnetic data tape first introduced in 1987. By 1991 Exabyte had a full range of tape drives scaling from single drives installable in a desktop computer or server to full automated tape libraries. The EXB-120 CHS - the largest of the 1991 range of tape libraries - found a hope at multiple sites, including The National Laboratory for High Energy Physics (KEK) in Japan.
A paper on the use of the EXB-120 CHS at the The National Laboratory for High Energy Physics given at the CERN ‘Computing in High Energy Physics ‘92’ conference can be viewed at cern.ch. A product page for the-then discontinued EXB-120 CHS can be viewed in the Wayback Machine.
