‘Don’t order your book online…’

netLibrary was an early e-book distributer that primarily focused on providing full electronic versions of texts to libraries and other similar institutions. Subject to DRM, users were able to ‘check out’ a book, have full digital text access, and were able to copy small sections of the text. netLibrary filed for bankruptcy in the autumn of 2001.

A copy of an early launch press release can be found here. An academic summary of netLibrary’s existence can be found at PubMed.
