About

VRML was an early web-focused 3D modelling language. Based around a structured text format, VRML also allowed for limited programmatic manipulation. The first specification for VRML was released in the autumn of 1994, with wider introduction occurring at SIGGRAPH 1995. VRML first became an ISO standard in 1997 however VRML achieved poor support - with most browsers requiring a third-party plug-in to view VRML content - and the limited production of VRML content functionally collapsed by the year 2000.

Mark Pesce’s VRML Browsing & Building Cyberspace can be viewed at the Internet Archive. The New Rider’s publisher page can be viewed in the Wayback Machine.
